What Are the Common Keywords Mistakes We Need to Avoid?

Even in the Philippines, outsourcing companies have become a pivotal role in helping other businesses (local, national or international) become more widely known in the digital world. Why is it so important to be known digitally? Well, the internet is a growing trend and every day a majority of the Earth’s population is going online, so why not appeal to this crowd?

When we venture into becoming big on the internet, we come across this strategy called Online Marketing where the word Search Engine Optimization (SEO) will most likely cross our path. This is usually because it is SEO that helps get our website pages up in Google’s (or other popular search engines) ranks.

In SEO, one of the most important aspects to going up in the ranks is having a good keyword, and using the keyword properly. Like how a key is necessary to open a door, keywords (and good ones at that) are necessary for opening the door of internet popularity. This also opens the door for good business because as long as the doors are open, customers will come inside.

However, what happens when you have the wrong key or when you are using it improperly? Of course, the door will not open. When it comes to keywords there are natural mistakes that can happen and like other mistakes, they can be avoided once we learn from them.

To give us more ideas on what we have to avoid to properly use and create keywords, here are some common mistakes that often happen:

  • The Page Title or the Title Tag is one of the most important website locations to place a keyword. However, some websites do not realize this and place the name of their business instead. This does not just happen to one page of the website, sometimes this happens to all of the website’s pages. That is actually a waste of an opportunity because the Title Tag is actually a part of the website’s code, which is what the search engines are reading. It may not immediately show up on a website unless we hover over a tab, but the search engines consider this as a factor to get your ranks up. That is what really matters if we want to be seen on the coveted first page.
  • Sometimes we immediately think that the most generic keywords are the most effective. Well, that is not always the case. I mean they are called generic for a reason, and that is because everyone else is using it. When we use overly competitive keywords we can still risk going down in ranks because other big companies are also using the same keywords. Sure, it is relevant to your business. Your keyword sounds like the most common thing a person will type on a search engine. Your keyword also has high search volume. However, your keyword is also common. There are other more established businesses using the same keyword which makes it easy for you to be overshadowed. So go for less competitive keywords that can still help you dominate a different area of the search engines.
  • We might think that having a keyword on the Title Tag is enough but actually, it is not. We have to follow through with putting keywords on our page, most especially on our headlines. This is the first thing people will see when they visit a website and when they cannot find what they are looking for, they can be quick to click that “back” button. So make the keyword the star of your show early on by making sure it can be seen immediately on the headlines.

As I said earlier, our keywords open the door to internet popularity and they are what customers will look for. So let us try to avoid these mistakes, and use our keywords more properly to keep those doors open, and to keep customers coming.
